Muay Thai Wai kru Payak Dom Kwang

To perform the "Payak Dom Kwang" style.
Start with Wai Kru from the Dhep Phanom form until stand up with the Dhep Nimitra form.

Step 1: turn round your body to the right direction to wai "Phra Brahma : the right direction" for one time.

Step 2: from the Kow Yang , while the left foot is front , bend your body down frontward tighten the fist, raise your elbow to block the front side and instantly turn around to look at the backside which is look at the counterpart , the right arms and right foot are behide. Nod your head up and down to the counterpart one or two times

Step 3: repeat step 2 but switch the use the right foot front instead. And then repeat the step 2 and 4 which turn to perform until complete all 4 direction. Then go back to your corner with "Kow Yang" and bend body down to salute the counterpart. The "Payak Dom Kwang" and " Kwang Leow Lung" perform similar style

To perform the "Phra Rama Plang Sorn" style.

Phra Rama Phlang Sorn style generally perform the dance just one direction. It's the direction of the counterpart.

Phra Rama Plang Sorn 1

Step 1 : turn round your body to the right direction. Wai Phra Brahma one time.

Step 2 : step your left foot frontward raise your arms alike you catch a arrow rod in your left hand.

Step 3 : move your right hand to the backside alike you pick an arrow from your neck to the rod. Then pull the tendon backward 2-3 times but act alike not release the arrow repeat this for 2 time but in the third time you perform alike you lift the rod up high at the level of your ears. Stand still look straight at your target then release the arrow.

Phra Rama Plang Sorn 2

Step 4 : while your release your arrow lay down your right foot on the floor and raise your left foot up frontward simultaneously . After that raise your hand at above the face . Act alike you are looking at the arrow you released. And waiting to see the result. If you are disappointed at the result cause from the mistarget shot. You express by shaking your head right and left. if you are pleased with the result then you smile
and nod your head up and down to show your appreciation.

Step 5 : you say the prayer "Sake Ka-Tha" such as "Na Jung Ngung" three times. and then stamp down the floor three times. Step 6 : "Yang Sam Khum" to your corner then bend your body down to salute the counterpart.

To perform the "Sod Soi Ma-La" style ,

starting with "Wai Kru" in sitting "Thep -Panom " until standing up in " Dhep-Nimitra".

Step 1 : turn round your body to the right direction. Perform "Wai Phra Brahma" one time.

Step 2 : step out your left foot forward. Raise your right leg and straighten it backward , lift it to the same level of your chin. Bend your left arm perpendicular to the floor. Stretch the tip of your fist up.

Step 3 : insert left fist up inside of the right arm and beyond it up until right elbow parallel to the level of your chin.

Step 4 : repeat the third step but change the right arm to be the left arm instead.

Step 5 : repeat the step 2- 4 but change to stand by your right foot instead.

Step 6 : repeat the dance for every direction. And then "Kow Yang" and bend down to salute the counterpart and go the your corner.

Muay Thai Wai Kru Yoong Ram Pan

To perform the "Yoong Ram Pan " style.

Starts with "Wai Kru" from "Dhep Panom" form and other form respectively until raise to stand up in the "Dhep Nimitra" form.

Step 1 : turn around your body to the front direction "Wai Pra Bhrama" one time.
Step 2 : step out your left foot forward. Raise your right foot and straighten it backward bend down your body to the frontward simultaneously. Which your hand clasping at the chest level.
Step 3 : turn the face side of your palm upward and slowly move your arms backward through the armpit to the backside of your body until your arms are straight, move your hands out to the side of the body alike straighten your arms and move it round to come gather at your face.Repeat this way three times.

Step 4 : move your right legs perpendicular to the floor. Raise the right foot up. Step 6 : raise your left foot and straighten it backward , repeat the step 1-4 and then perform the dance the same way in every direction. Then go back to your corner with " Kow yang" manner , bend down your body to salute your counterpart.

Muay Thai Wai Kru -Yoong Fon Hang

To perform "Yoong-Fon-Hang" style,

you must start from "Wai Kru" from the sit form called "Dhep Panom" to the stand form called "Dhep Nimitra" respectively.

Step 1 : turn your body to right side , Wai Pra Bhrama for one time.
Step 2 : step out your left foot forward. Raise up your right foot then straighten it backward bend down your body forward simultaneously. Put the hands together in salute at the chest level.
Step 3 : turn the face side of your palm upward and slowly move your arms go through the armpits to the backside of your body until your arms are straight. all of tip fingers are closed together.

Step 4 : move your hands out to the side of the body alike straighten your arms. Then move it round to come gathering at your face. Lift your chest and your face up while your hands were put to touch your head , while your right legs still stretch backward Step 4 : hold down your right foot to stand straightly . Raise up your left foot then straighten it backward. Stand on your right foot and then repeat the step 1- 4 ( it's just switch the right side to be the left side ). Repeat to perform the dance for all 4 direction. Then get back to the corner with "Kow Yang" and bend down your body to salute your counterpart.

After being in sitting manner until standing up in Dhepnimitra manner and then turn to the right . .
Step 1: raise the right foot and straight it backward. Standing on your left foot. Bend your body to the front . Start to perform the dance by sprawling your arms , kneel down while turning the face side of your palms down.
Step 2: kneel up and bend up the wrist to raise up the fingers.
Step 3: lay your right foot on the floor then straight your left foot backward , continue to perform the dance alike the flying bird. The movement of body , arm and palm must correspond with the music.

Step 4: lay down your left foot then "Yang Sam Khum" (walk strengthly in three step) to change the direction. By turning you around to the "left direction" then step out your left foot . bend your body down to " wai " the "Pra-Bhrama-tis" ( the direction of Bhrama ) at the left side just one time. Repeat to perform the " Hong-Hern" dancing styles by starting the first step to the third step again but in the fourth step you must turn to the backside "Wai Bhrama" and then repeat to perform the dance . The last time turn to the front side. (which is the original direction while you sit in the "Dhep Pha-nom" form) And then "Wai-Bhrama" perform the dance called "Hong-Hern" and "Bhrama Si Na" then you play "Yang Sam Khum" and bend your body down to salute your counterpart. It is the finish of the "Wai Kru" and the dance called "Hong-Hern"

What's Muaythai?

Muaythai (Thai Boxing) is what the Thai people call their own martial art. The art of muaythai has been the country's most popular spectator sport for hundreds of years. It is unique among other kinds of fighting disciplines in its approach to close quarters fighting. Fighters are able to more effectively use their elbows, knees, feet and fists than in other martial arts,muaythai is referred to as "The Art of the Eight Limbs", as the hands; shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively.

Today Muaythai is a variation of Muaythai Boran which translates to "Ancient Boxing", So uses kicks , knee, elbows and punches in a ring with gloves similar to those used in western boxing.

The "Wai Kru" or "Wai-Khru" also known as boxing dance is an important part of any evening watching Thai Boxing. These are ceremonies that are performed before each muaythai bout. Sometimes the "Wai-Kru"are brief and basic, but other times they may be eloquent performances that draw praise and applause from the crowd. It is said that those who see well can determine who will win the fight by watching two fighters perform their "Wai-Kru". Teachers are highly respected in Thai society, and many artistic disciplines, not just muaythai, perform "Wai-Kru" or"respects to the teacher". Foreigners viewing these rituals should take care to be polite and not act disrespectfully regarding the "Wai-Kru". The Thais take seriously any insult to the "Wai-Kru", just as you would if somebody insulted your spiritual beliefs.

Before the competition of muaythai, Krabi-Krabong (Thai swords) , or any other thai ancient weapons martial arts , every competitor must perform the "Wai-Kru" ritual and perform the boxing dance which is the continued tradition since ancient times."Wai-Kru" is a way to pay respect to his majesty the king or the chairman of the competition tournament. Furthermore , "Wai-Kru" is the way to realize the goodness of the master who gave them the knowledge. It's also the way to create the strength of their mind. The style of the dance is unique to each boxing bureau. Boxers who danced the same style wouldn't box each other since they realize that they have the same master. Furthermore, to dance is one way to warm up before starting the fight . It also helps relax the stress and to prepare body and mind to be ready to get into the battle.

What is "Thai Fight"

"Thai Fight" is a project (competition) to help build up Muay Thai boxing to International standards and level and to show the world that the Muay Thai world championship should and must be held in Thailand. This world championship competition "Thai Fight" will consist of 16 competitors from various countries around the world including Thailand. "Thai Fight" is a blend between Muay Thai and entertainment. Thai Fight is an International sport entertainment created and owned by citizen of Thailand. The Thai boxing World Competition Tournament "Thai Fight" that was held in a football stadium in Thailand this past year was so successful that it drew more than 10,000 fans cheering it on live and millions more watching it on TV broadcasts. This tournament has promoted greater interest in Muay Thai fighting both here in Thailand and around the world. The second year of "Thai Fight" will be even greater and more exciting than the first year. More than 10 countries are interested in holding the Muay Thai World Competition "Thai Fight" first round in their respected countries.

Tournament formatCompetition in 2011 will have 2 weight classes.
• Welter weight, 147 lbs(67 kg) limit which was the only weight class in the 2010 Thai Fight championship. The champion of the Isuzu Cup No.21 will represent Thailand in 2011.
• Junior middle weight, 154 lbs(70 kg) limit Buakaw Por Pramuk, a famous Muay Thai boxer, will represent Thailand in this weight class 2011.

Theme of 2011 competition.
- Each weight class will have 8 competitors representing their countries.
- The competitors will be allowed to use all Muay Thai skills such as the punch, kick, knee and elbow according to Muay Thai rules. All fights will be 3 round scheduled bouts.

Thai fighting main idea is to defendthemselves from the enemy by standing strong and firm, keeping your chin downand both hands up guarding and ready. One foot down pointing forward bearingweight only on half of that foot. The other foot slightly back pointed outarranged out from the shoulder. This foot bearing a quarter of your weight onthe big toe area. From this position they can quickly move the front footforward allows them to always be ready to fight both defensive and offensivestyle fighting. One forearm is lifted up to shoulder level close to the cheek.The other forearm is lifted up to the other cheek. Both elbows will not bespread out too wide or too close to each other. Having quick reactionsto every movement of your opponent with appropriate responses of Muay Thaiskill.As Muay Thai fighters move around they will pick a specific moment tostrike out at their opponents tricking or scaring them.

Every strike or hit has a purpose,sometimes to trick their opponents . There are close in and distant stylefighting that produce many dangerous and famous Muay Thai strikes(hits) thatcan knock out an opponent such as:

Jorakhae Fad Hang( Crocodile tail strike, spin aroundand strike with the foot).

Tane Gwad Lan( Kick with a sweeping motion takingout opponent's feet).

Hanuman Tawaiwan( Punch both fists up to the chin).

Morn Yan Lak( Kick the body to make the enemy losebalance).

Huk Nguang Iyara( Use opponent's body to jump up and kick the neck).

Bun Sean Tossakan( Kick to the neck).

Puk Look Toy( Elbow to the enemy's thigh).

Monto Nung Tan( Jump up and elbow to the fontanel).

Hirun Muan Pandin( Elbow strike backward).

Praram Dern Dong( Kick then punch to the same side).

Lue si Bod Ya( Jump up and elbow to the middle ofthe head).

There are many more of Muay Thai tactics, used to trick or knock down opponent such as: touch and kick, touchand push, alternate kick, sweep kick ,high kick, Sawab kick, in and out kick,stick kick, ground kick, back kick, pinchpick and assorted elbow strikes. ect.

Rules

Current Muay Thai amateur andprofessional boxing matches have clear rules regulating all fights arranged bythe Promotor. There is one ring referee and 3 judges using a point system.Pointsystem as follows:

Each round has a max of 10 points afighter can receiver. Points are given as follows: The skill level of Muay Thai martial arts they use/ boxing strikes/ injury/ severity of the wound/advantage/ point deduction for foul play/ knock downs.

The score is calculatedaccording to Muay Thai rules, experience and knowledge of the judges.

Most of competition will have 5 roundbouts, each round last 3 minutes and rest period for 2 minutes, goal is toproduce the winner and to show their high level of martial art skills. Thefighter must dress according to Muay Thai rules and wear a sacred cloth on thehead. Prior the fight, the fighters will performMuay Thai dance to showrespect to the teachers. They start from sitting position Benjangkapradit bowdown to show respect / kneel/ stand-up from sitting position. InMuay Thai dancing sometimes they may walk or side step at the same time and doing handmotions as if pulling a rope chanting in the way they were thought, to spikefear into their opponents.

Muay Thai dancing position such asPraram Plang Sorn( Praram use the arrow), Lab Hok Mokkasuk( Sharpen the spear),Kwang Leaw Lang( Turned around deer), Hong Hern( flying Swan), Sawnoi Prapang(young lady put on make up). Music will be played to give rhythm in the fight,Sarammahkak song is played for the dancing prior to the fight, Bulan Chok muaysong and Cherd song will be played during the fight. Thai music instrumentsconsist of Java flutes, Kak drum and cymbal.

History of Muay Thai 2

The nation if Thailand ( Siam) was born and built up in 1238, Sukhothai its capital, 772 years ago.
The forefathers of Thailand created martial art called “Rum Mud Rum Muay”
now know as “ Muay Thai which is a science of Fighting, this skilled fighting gave victory to Thai warriors against its enemies.
Thailand can be proud that this type of fighting helps to preserve its country.

Muay Thai is Thai martial arts which has long history.
Muay Thai was used a method of fighting is past wars. Nowadays Muay Thai has become a sport, only now they wear protective gloves when opponents fight each other to prevent serious injuries.

Muay Thai has a reputation as the science of the Eight attacks,
which include 2 hands, 2 feet, 2 elbows and 2 knees, some references
also mention a attacks which include the head
or even 10 attacks(or weapons) which includes the hip( or buttock).

Muay Thai is passed on from ancient style fighting.
Each area of Thailand has its own brand of Muay Thai style fighting.
These areas were divided up as follow;
• Muay Chaiya( South)
• Muay Lopburi and Muay Pranakorn( Central)
• Muay Thasao(North)
• Muay Korat( Northeast)

Muay Thai art.
In the past they taught Muay Thai in schools. Schools are different from fighting
camps in that they have teacher experts in Muay Thai skills and well know in Thailand.
Those teachers whose desire to pass on their knowledge of Muay Thai to future
generations, only teaching those students committed and have a great desire to
learn Muay Thai fighting to its highest level. Fighting camps are Muay Thai fighters getting
together to share their experiences with one another to improve their skills for
future competitions. These were two types of schools.
1) Royal school (Government run).
2) Civil school (Civilian run). Some would practice fighting with a sward (Krabi)
and some would practice with a staff( Krabong).
There was also another style of fighting for use in defense and war.

In the past, Muay Thai competition matches were held at festivals or temple ceremony events. School of fighting and fighting camps would send their students and/or teachers to compete against one another to see who would be champion and receive an award (money) that was collected from bets on all matches. All competitors were treated equally. There are stories that the King would disguise himself and go to those competitions to fight against civilian fighters in order to show his abilities and skill as a Muay Thai fighter, such as King Sua( Khun Luang Sorasuk) , King Taksin and Praya Pichai Dabhuk ect.

In past history one of the wars that Thailand lost to Myanmar, many Thai citizens were taken captive and held as prisoners. One of those prisoners was Nai Kanom Tom, a teacher of Muay Thai from Ayuthya, was forced to fight against Burmish fighters and won many times, proving his greatness in Muay Thai  fighting.

In the late Ayuthya period of Thailand, the department of law and the Royal police department were established to be responsible in protecting the King and the Royal family. They required to learn Muay Thai  fighting and wrestling. Because of the requirement, many Muay Thai  teachers and skilled fighters worked for the Government. Those Government workers would perform and show their skills in front of the King in the palace during various special festivals, a tradition that continued annually.

  Muay Thai  fighting was very popular in early Rattanakosin period up until King Rama 5,6 and 7. During King Rama 5 reign the Government official arranged Muay Thai  fighting to be shown in front of the King on a regular basis in the rose garden palace. Most of the competitors ( Fighters) were Thai, but on the occasion they did bring in foreign fighters.

Early in Muay Thai  competition the competitors used to wrap their hands with ropes, called “Muay Kad Cheak”. This continued up until Pae Leargprasert threw a devastating punch and killed his Cambodian opponent. After this incident they started to use padded gloves. During this period Muay Thai fighting rules were set up and the first standard boxing ring was built in Lumpini and Ratchadamnern. These rules are still used to this day in Muay Thai  competitions.

people around the world as being near perfect and elegant mixing together science and art.

Since the period of Sukhothai, Krung Sri Ayuthya, Thonburi to Krung Rattanakosin,
all Thai Kings were warriors. They protected the country by using weapons and Muay Thai martial arts.
The King always led by example leading his heroes and heroines on the front lines to fight their enemy.
If their weapons fell to the ground they would continue the fight using Muay Thai martial ar
t ready to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of Thailand and their King.

“ Rum Mud Rum Muay” has developed over the years from the science of skilled fighting
for war to martial art on stage. This is our culture heritage the way of thinking of our forefathers
that Thai people should be proud of and preserve Muay Thai along with Thailand forever.
